Deputy Sergeant

JOB SUMMARY


Under direction, provides supervision to assigned personnel.  Performs activities related to the enforcement of state laws, investigation of crimes, patrol of the county, service to courts, administrative tasks and the handling of prisoners.  Provides assistance to distressed motorists, ferrets out crime, responds to calls for service, and reported crimes.  Uses extensive communications skills (verbal and written) to gather information, resolve ongoing conflicts between parties, calm emotionally distraught or suicidal people, elicit confessions from suspects and write accurate statements and reports.  Prepares files for court.  Testifies in criminal and civil court as needed.  Executes arrest warrants, search warrants, writs of arrests, various court orders and other legal processes.  Operates agency vehicles in all weather conditions and around the clock as well as at high speed or other emergency conditions.  Transports inmates to hearings, trials, and medical appointments as needed.  Develop and maintain required proficiency with authorized weapons, certification in chemical weapons, DUI testing and other required skills.  Maintain mandatory physical fitness standards required for running, engaging in strenuous physical activity, sustained aerobic activity necessary for crawling, wrestling, climbing and subduing suspects.

QUALIFICATIONS


Valid Alabama Peace Officers Standards and Training Certificate, must be bondable, valid Alabama driver’s license, high school diploma or GED, prefer college courses in Criminal Justice or related areas, prefer 3 years of experience as Deputy Sheriff.

Boarding Technician

Department: Animal Control
Reports to: Shelter Manager / Animal Control Director
Class: FLSA Non-Exempt
Pay: Range 5, Hire $14.69 an hour


WORK HOURS: Scheduled work will be performed Monday – Sunday working no more that 29 hours a week.

Must be able to meet the physical requirements prior to admission to the Police Training Academy.  Any applicant who has been convicted of a felony or a misdemeanor involving moral turpitude or use of force or violence; any person acquiring (15) or more points for traffic violations within a two year period, or any conviction of drug offenses other than first time conviction for possession of marijuana for personal use, shall not be eligible. Must be a citizen of the United States.  Former military personnel must have honorable discharge from duty.
